CLIMATE & ENERGY: NINE KEY INSIGHTS FROM THE NETHERLANDS

This year, Dewie Drolenga once again had the honor of illustrating the finalists for the “Best Climate Action & Energy Paper Award”, showcasing groundbreaking research in the fields of climate and energy.

An increasingly strained electricity grid, melting glaciers threatening our freshwater supply, and a rising demand for raw materials such as lithium, uranium, and cobalt. These are just a few alarming headlines from the past few weeks.

During the “Best Climate Action & Energy Paper Award” ceremony on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, nine young scientists from Delft University of Technology will present their inspiring research findings.

“Voldongen – 40 Jaar Werk” is een visuele biografie van een van Nederlands meest prominente striptekenaars. Peter van Dongen (1966), bekend van **Muizentheater**, **Rampokan**, en – gebaseerd op de roman van Adriaan van Dis – **Familieziek**, heeft een indrukwekkend oeuvre opgebouwd. Als tekenaar van de beroemde serie **Blake & Mortimer** bereikte zijn nieuwe album wekenlang de top van de Franse bestsellerlijsten. Daarnaast is hij een toonaangevende grafische verteller in de Nederlandse reflectie op de bloedige koloniale afscheiding van Nederlands-Indië.

“Voldongen – 40 Jaar Werk” biedt meer dan een rijk visueel overzicht. Het combineert een chronologisch overzicht met een thematische benadering. Hierdoor zien we hoe zijn sociaal-realistische en typisch Amsterdamse debuut verbonden is met zijn vooruitstrevende visie op Hindia Blanda (Nederlands-Indië) en zelfs het meer commerciële “Blake & Mortimer”. Dit boek is een essentieel werk over een jongen uit de Amsterdamse Rivierenbuurt (met Chinese, Duitse en Ternataanse afkomst), die door en in zijn werk uitgroeit tot een man van meerdere werelden en een van de grote beeldvertellers van zijn generatie.

Stang designed icons for the front panels of this new student housing project in Amsterdam, Sluisbuurt. Each icon depicts typical “home” objects like a fish bowl, coffee machine, cat on couch, laundry basket etc. Mei Architects are responsible for the design, the execution of which will be finished by the end of 2025.

A wonderful initiative: to make the city of Amsterdam greener and more sustainable (starting with the heart of the city), De Gezonde Stad, together with TU Delft, has launched the Green Light District project.
