About this work

Soldiers on the moon, the Soviets are perhaps earlier on the moon than we, feared the American army in 1959. The Horizon project was secretly created plan for a military base on the moon. It was a bit ambitious. The costs and the technical (un) feasibility were in themselves sufficient reasons to cancel Project Horizon. But there was another reason. In 1967 the US (along with 106 other countries, including the Soviet Union) signed the Outer Space Treaty, an international treaty that forbids any military activity on any other celestial body.

Hans Michielsen made some realistic retro illustrations of how they thought it could have been.
